AMPHIBIANS

Amphibians are the animals commonly known as toads, frogs, tree frogs, salamanders, newts, blind snakes, and caecilians. One of the most striking characteristics of amphibians is the presence, in most species, of two distinct life stages: an aquatic larval stage and a terrestrial adult stage after metamorphosis.

Currently, there are 8727 known species of amphibians worldwide, and Brazil has the largest number of representatives of this group, with about 1188 species recorded to date.
