With individuals adapted to practically every type of aquatic environment, fishes make up a vast group that represents more than half of all other vertebrate species combined, which number around 60,000 in their entirety. Overall, 41% of the species are freshwater, 58% marine, and 1% move between fresh and saltwater throughout their lives. These figures reflect the great diversity of species distributed in various aquatic ecosystems, as well as the long and complex evolutionary history of these organisms.
Here at the São Paulo Aquarium, you can meet different species of fish and learn about the importance of each one.
